A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for south east Queensland, with a noxious cell moving through Ipswich towards Brisbane and another in the Somerset area.
As of 3:20 p.m., weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near Brisbane CBD, Camp Hill, Manly and Rathdowney.
Beenleigh, Brisbane Airport, Nudgee and Mud Island are expected to be affected by 3 p.m. and Jacobs Well, Amity Point, Rathdowney, southern Moreton Island and central Moreton Bay waters off Redcliffe by 4:20 p.m.
Meteorological Bureau Matthew Marshall said storm activity that afternoon was likely to be widespread.
« By and large, severe thunderstorms are possible in southeast Queensland this afternoon and evening, which can cause noxious winds, heavy hail and heavy rain, » he said.
« The most likely area for these storms is the Gold Coast hinterland, Brisbane, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast, although storms are largely possible in southeast Queensland this afternoon. »
He said storms would likely occur inland in the afternoon before moving east in the evening.
Heat wave conditions affect the far north west of Queensland, while a tropical low could form offshore on the far north coast.
