Logan Couture and Max Pacioretty played a wrestling match in the first phase. Kurtis Gabriel and Ryan Reaves dropped gloves at the beginning of the third period to lean in the heavyweight division.
The after-school activity expected when the Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights get together came about as expected on Friday night.
The Sharks were able to make up a three-goal deficit and score a little more than a minute before the end in the third half, but Pacioretty scored a 5-4 win at the SAP Center after 1:25 extra time Golden Knights.
Kevin Labanc scored his fifth goal of the season with 18:53 in the third half. Vegas goalkeeper Oscar Dansk misplayed the puck as it slid towards him and Labanc dived to get a stick on to throw it over the goal line and tie the game.

(Anda Chu / Bay Area News Group) Brent Burns, Matt Nieto and Logan Couture also scored goals for the Sharks, who fell 1-3-1 in seven games on that homestand. The two teams play again on Saturday night before the Sharks play the St. Louis Blues on Monday.
« It’s the best team in the west and we’ve scored four goals, won the special teams and got them to OT, » said Sharks coach Bob Boughner of the Golden Knights. « I’ll make the positive out of it. That was a good point for us. »
The Sharks fell 3-0 at 2:57 in the second half when starting goalkeeper Martin Jones was drawn for the fifth time this season after firing just eight shots.
Reilly Smith and Chandler Stephenson scored 5:48 and 7:03 respectively in the first half, and Pacioretty brought the Golden Knights three goals ahead of Jones.
Pacioretty had just hit the ice and threw a low shot at the Sharks net, which slipped under Jones for his eleventh goal of the season. Jones was then replaced by Devan Dubnyk, who stopped all 10 shots he faced in the final at 4:56 pm when the Sharks killed two penalties against Kurtis Gabriel and Rudolfs Balcers.

Couture tangled up with Pacioretty, and it remained about seven minutes after Pacioretty Couture near the middle ice far from the puck had met. Couture stayed on the ice for a few seconds and when the game was back on the ice he grabbed Pacioretty right in front of the Shark Bank.
Pacioretty was not called, but Couture was given a two-minute minor to rough with, the second of two penalties the sharks had to kill in the first stage.
At the beginning of the third period, Reaves and Gabriel dropped the gloves in a spirited slope. The two exchanged words during the pre-game warm-up and then began their third period on the ice together. After the fight, the two continued to abuse each other from their respective penalty boxes.
Reaves was injured later in the third period. He checked Gabriel from behind and it seemed as if Gabriel’s skate had made contact with Reaves’ thigh or groin area as he walked forward. Reaves needed help from the ice as he couldn’t put any weight on his right leg.
« It’s a high-tension game, but it all goes out the window when you see it go down like that, » Gabriel said of Reaves. « It looks like a serious injury so it’s hard to see. »
Given the distant and recent history between the two teams, there had to be some bad blood on Friday.
At their only other meeting this season, Sharks defender Radim Simek was injured and missed four games after being hit the endboards by Golden Knights winger Jonathan Marchessault.
A few seconds later, Simek was checked by Marchessault in the middle section, left the game and did not return.
Shark trainer Bob Boughner didn’t like the lack of reaction from his team as they didn’t advocate for their teammate in this situation.
« We’ve talked a lot about how we’ve tried to address the culture and there have been a lot of good things that came out of some of the changes we made, » Boughner said last month. « I think this is just another learning experience. »

« He’s not jumping a guy like Smitty … I think Evander sure put him down a few pounds, » Vegas striker Alex Tuch told Golden Knights TV after the game. « You know what? I know he has to keep his head up every game we play. For the next seven games we play, Evander should better look over his shoulder because there are going to be a lot of people who want to bring him back for it. «
