World news – GB – Will McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC and Subway be open during the second lockdown?

Will the fast food giants keep their doors open?

England heads for a second lockdown from Thursday as the country struggles to contain the second wave of coronavirus which has led to a surge in cases

Starting Thursday, many non-essential stores will close for four weeks, while pubs and restaurants will only be able to offer take-out or delivery service

The last lockdown in March saw many high street fast food giants – including McDonald’s, Greggs, KFC, and Subway – shut down their stores entirely, but will they stay open this time around?

While they closed all of their branches in the first lockdown in March, McDonald’s has confirmed that this time around they will remain open for drive-through, take-out and delivery

A spokesperson for McDonald’s explained: “Following [the announcement] of a new four-week lockdown in England, we have confirmed that our drive-thru, take-out and delivery services can remain open Our catering areas will be closed during this period from November 5

« We will continue to follow guidelines and regulations set by public health and government authorities and we will confirm any changes in our services to our employees first and then to our customers »

The chain is also offering a 30% discount on main menu items at the majority of its branches across the country, until November 15

Greggs will also remain open during the lockdown for takeout and delivery orders – good news for people wanting their first festive bake of the year – which can be prepared through JustEat or through Greggs’ website or the ‘Greggs Rewards app

Branches will also remain open so customers can order from there, but rest areas will be closed

KFC is also one of the channels that will remain open for delivery and delivery during the lockdown period

Customers can order through the KFC app, or through UberEats, JustEat or Deliveroo – and drive-thru services will also be available at some of its restaurants

The sandwich chain is following in the footsteps of other restaurants and remains open for takeout and delivery during the lockdown – having closed on the previous one in March

Customers will be able to order their footlongs via the Subway app as well as via UberEats, JustEat and Deliveroo
