Former Newcastle United boss Ossie Ardiles has paid tribute to his « dear friend » Diego Maradona following the sudden death of the Argentine legend.
Maradona suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at his Tigre home, and news of his shock was confirmed on Wednesday.
The world champion had on 30. October underwent an operation to remove a blood clot in his brain after the Gimnasia boss fell ill.
Immediate surgery was required to remove a subdural hemetoma, and the 60-year-old had been sent home to continue his recovery.
Ardiles, who was responsible for the magpies for 10 months from 1991, was one of many members of the football community to pay tribute to his Argentinian compatriot.
Ardiles described the former Barcelona and Napoli starters as « the best » player of all time and thanked the 60-year-old for his friendship over many years.
He wrote on Twitter: « Thank you, dear Dieguito, for your friendship, for your football, sublime, without comparison.
