Super welterweight perspective Hamzah Sheeraz moved to 12-0 when he stopped Guido Nicolas Pitto in the tenth and final round on the Dubois. Joyce Bill in Westminster.
21-year-old Sheeraz towered over his Argentine opponent and landed many flashy shots, but failed to beat Pitto, who often led him off and overworked. After an impressive start, Sheeraz let the fight drift before opening up on the final lap to force the stoppage. He also retained his « WBO European » belt.
Sheeraz succeeded in the first round, landing a series of left hooks on his body that made Pitto flinch. The 33-year-old Pitto put Sheeraz under more pressure in the second round, but Sheeraz remained light-footed and caught Pitto with his push.
Pitto tried to put pressure on Sheeraz but the closer he got, the more risks he had to take and he was jolted by a short uppercut on round three, having just landed his own combination.
After that, the fight developed into a pattern, Pitto putting pressure on Sheeraz, who chose his shots well but never really kicked through the corridors and the fight drifted. Sheeraz sometimes just moved around and didn’t get involved.
Finally, Sheeraz took to the start on the final lap, landed two big rights that rocked Pitto back on the ropes, then opened with both hands. Referee John Latham stepped in at 1:11 of the round after a hard right blow was made to Pinto in the corner post.
