Doggie Poynter will return to our screens this coming Saturday for the unique ITV private channel, McFly: All About Us. In the revealing document, guitarist Mac Fly discusses his tumultuous years in fighting addiction, which culminated in a lethal dose of Valium after the band was discontinued in 2016. The musician has been outspoken about his addiction problems in the past.

In an interview with The Sun in 2018, Doge thought about his decision to seek treatment for alcoholism.

Guitarist McFly said it was the best decision he had ever made and praised his band mates for helping him stick to sobriety..

Doge revealed how alcoholism made him feel like a prisoner, but his rehabilitation broke the wave of persecution.

He said, “I’ve been sober for nearly eight years. It changed my life drastically. You are a little prisoner.

“There were a lot of things that I wanted to do but couldn’t do because I was trapped by the addiction so cleaning up and going to the program was one of the best things I’ve ever done.

Speaking of the role his colleagues played in his recovery, he said, “Without them, I don’t think I would have stayed awake.. They were my biggest support network. For me [the group] is never going to break.

He said that the first two years were the most difficult, with holidays and special events swollen.

Alcohol abuse generally occurs when you drink in a harmful way or become dependent on alcohol.

According to the NHS, to keep the health risks from alcohol at a low level, both men and women are advised not to drink more than 14 units per week regularly.

« If you are concerned about your drinking or have had an alcohol-related accident or injury, you may be offered a short counseling session known as a brief intervention, » the NHS explains.

According to the Health Authority, the brief intervention lasts five to 10 minutes and covers the risks associated with your drinking pattern, advice on reducing your intake, the alcohol support networks available to you, and any emotional issues with your drinking.

As indicated, it may be recommended to keep a ‘drinking diary’ so that you can record how many units of alcohol you drink per week.

If you are concerned about your or someone else’s drinking, you can contact this free helpline with complete confidence.
