Starting tonight, BBC One will air Roadkill, an exciting political thriller from playwright David Hare, who previously wrote The Hours, starring Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep and The Reader – which won at Kate Winslet Oscar for Best Actress

Sure to keep viewers hooked, the new series has drawn an impressive number of stars for the cast list

What is the show about and who is playing – and what time do you have to tune in?

Celebrating his victory in a newspaper defamation case, Minister Peter Laurence is summoned to Downing Street to see Prime Minister Dawn Ellison, who reveals she is seeking to promote him to a state post

However, he is quickly redeemed with his feet on the ground with a bump when his special adviser Duncan Knock reveals that an inmate at a women’s prison claims to have a secret about his past that could affect his future

Hugh Laurie has said of his character in interviews: « He begins the story at the mid-level of the cabinet as Secretary of Transportation and has the ambition to rise through the ranks

« The story speaks in some ways about the price he is willing to pay to reach the first place and the price he forces everyone to pay, mainly his family but also those who promise him their loyalty.

Laurie will know viewers well for starring in longtime American medical drama House – which has earned her two Golden Globes and a handful of Emmy nominations

He also found a sequel for his early works alongside Stephen Fry, including Fry & Laurie and Blackadder

McCrory plays Prime Minister Helen McCrory says of her character: «  She doesn’t realize how dangerous he is I think she realizes that he is popular and that he is very ambitious like her , and he’s unscrupulous, as she is But what she doesn’t realize is how many supporters he has « 

Helen McCrory has been in politics before – after playing Cherie Blair in the 2006 film The Queen She is most recently known for her turn as Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders and Narcissa Malfoy from the Harry Potter films

Torrens plays Lapidus, an editor whose newspaper was the subject of a lawsuit brought against him by Peter Laurence (Laurie)

Torrens’ past credits include The Crown (as Tommy Lascelles), Preacher (as Herr Starr), Poldark (as Cary Warleggan), Deep State (as William Kingsley), Patrick Melrose (as Nicholas Pratt), Versailles (Cassel) ), Doctor Who (like Rocastle)

Greene plays Pepper, a newspaper reporter, who wrote an article about Peter Laurence He took the newspaper to court and won the case after Charmian changed his story on the witness stand

The first episode will air on Sunday, October 18 – the remaining episodes will follow over the next three Sundays

The hour-long episode will air on BBC One and can be found on iPlayer
