Review and highlights of the Sky Bet Championship clash between Barnsley and Bournemouth at Oakwell as Jason Tindall’s men returned to the top with a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Philip Billing, Dominic Solanke, Diego Rico and Sam Surridge

Bournemouth gave Barnsley a lesson in efficiency when they brought the Tykes their biggest home defeat in seven years with a 4-0 win at Oakwell.

Although the process wasn’t as one-sided as the goal line suggested, the hosts didn’t see many chances to improve the game after Philip Billing’s (12) kick-off and were punished accordingly when Dominic Solanke played a second added (45 2). .

A stunning free kick from Diego Rico – the first Spaniard since joining Leganes in 2018 – extended Bournemouth’s post-break advantage (52) before Sam Surridge raced forward shortly after to improve the shine with a neat finish (68). .

Jason Tindall’s men climb to the top of the Sky Bet Championship as a result of the sweeping victory. Barnsley fell on Jan.. Place back under Preston, who now has a slightly better goal difference.

With Barnsley at the table in the midst of a determined march and Bournemouth seeking revenge for a midweek loss to Preston, it was no surprise when the Oakwell trial began with a series of chances for both sides.

On a break in communication for the hosts, Surridge shot a shot over an empty goal and Solanke saw a shot blocked just before Tyke’s captain – and long-range specialist – Alex Mowatt tested Asmir Begovic’s reflexes with a strong curling effort from 20 Meters away.

Bournemouth pushed forward when Billing fired a shot well out of Jack Walton’s reach in the lower right corner, but from then on its intensity eased slightly, and Barnsley seemed more equal than several tantalizing crosses from Conor Chaplin for far after unchallenged.

Just in time for halftime, the cherries doubled their lead. Cauley Woodrow was seized a few yards from the edge of his own territory, so Solanke could take the ball race towards the sideline and shoot over Walton.

Just seven minutes after the break, Rico caught Barnsley off guard when he skillfully found the inside of the near post with a great free kick from 20 yards. While Woodrow and substitute Luke Thomas were close, the result was beyond doubt Surridge stormed forward on the counter and scored his second goal in a week with the help of a touch from Tyke’s goalkeeper Walton.

The 22-year-old was limited to just two league starts earlier this week, but after scoring midweek against Preston and then again at Oakwell, he gave Jason Tindall some real food for thought ahead of the busy December schedule, that lies ahead of us.

He threatened an attack from the first minute and went close with the above effort, while also pulling several fouls to cleverly win free kicks for the cherries. An impressive performance was rounded off with a deserved goal in the middle of the second half.

Barnsley’s Valerien Ismael: « We made too many mistakes today. It was exactly the same situation – we made it too easy for our opponents. Bournemouth played in the Premier League and if you make mistakes at that level you will be punished. We have to analyze the situation, but not over-analyze it.

« To take the next step in this league, we have to be clinical and ruthless. After the game I always say that there is still a long way to go and that we have to concentrate. We have to give 100 percent in every game and think about how we can improve. «

Jason Tindall from Bournemouth: « It was really enjoyable. We had to react after a disappointing result against Preston and I felt we did really well today. We knew we had to start fast because they are difficult to play against and we knew they had a high line. So we tried to take advantage of this with some good balls in the background.

« We’re a team that think we’ll score goals. We’re very good in the future, we have some very good attackers, but what made me happy tonight was the clean sheet because we knew we had to improve. «

Bournemouth is Tuesday the 8th. December, next in action when they face Swansea at 7 a.m. at Liberty Stadium. 45pm while Barnsley receives Wycombe at 7am. 45 o’clock the following evening. Both games can be viewed on the Sky Sports Football Red Button.
