It’s the end of an era at Fox News: The cable news network canceled Lou Dobbs Tonight, which has been broadcast on the Fox Business Network since 2011, reports the Los Angeles Times.

A Fox News representative confirmed that Message from the Times. The Dobbs nightly program is now being replaced by Fox Business Tonight. The changing substitute presenters Jackie DeAngelis and David Asman start next week. Dobbs remains under contract with Fox News but « most likely will not appear on the company’s networks again, » according to the Times.

Dobbs – a longtime television newsreader who worked for nearly three decades before joining Fox – was one of the most outspoken supporters of former President Donald Trump and recently reiterated Trump’s claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen due to widespread fraud. Just yesterday, election software company Smartmatic filed a $ 2.7 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News and three of its hosts, including Dobbs, for accusing the company of illegally rigging Trump’s elections. But sources tell the Times that the annulment was under scrutiny before the lawsuit was filed, and Fox News says it stands by its 2020 election coverage and « will defend this unsubstantiated lawsuit in court. »

« Like us in October said Fox News Media is regularly considering program changes, and there are plans to introduce new formats after the election, including for Fox Business, « a network representative said in a statement to the Times. “This is part of these planned changes. A new 5pm program will be announced in the near future. «
