World news – Ed Sheeran flies to Australia to conduct the mentor’s funeral

Suffolk superstar Ed Sheeran has been quarantined in Australia for two weeks after he was granted exemption to travel there to perform at a state memorial for a close friend.

Award-winning music manager Michael Gudinski founded in 1972 the famous Mushroom Records and is known for signing famous artists like Kylie Minogue.

The 68-year-old died suddenly in his sleep on March 2nd, leading to an emotional statement from the Afterglow singer, with whom he toured in 2018 .

Describing the Australian as both a « father figure and a mentor », Ed said, « Michael was a tornado of joy.

The Framlingham singer, who headlined last night at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, along with Kylie Minogue and other acts affiliated with Mushroom Records, has the state memorial to shaped the music guru.

He started playing Castle on the Hill, which he called Gudinski’s personal favorite – despite the fact that he misunderstood the lyrics and replaced the wrong line with « We were younger then » of « I was younger then ».

The arena was filled with 15,000 and more spectators watching online, with video tributes played live by Taylor Swift, Billy Joel, Elton John and Sting. </ In his emotional statement on social media, Ed added that he has a life-size bronze statue of Gudinski in his Suffolk home that he will cherish forever – given by "the heart of Australian music".
