On Wednesday, The Verge reported that the Discord networking platform banned the server for r / WallStreetBets, the Reddit community that bragged about manipulating the stock market.
r / WallStreetBets gained national attention this week following a campaign to aggressively buy shares in GameStop, the nationwide video game retailer, after it was revealed that several large Wall Street hedge funds were short of the stock due to the chain’s financial troubles. The campaign has dramatically increased the price of GameStop stock and wiped out the millions in value of those hedge funds in one fell swoop.
According to Discord, the ban has nothing to do with efforts to harm hedge funds, but rather with persistent hate speech violations.
« The server has been on our Trust & safety team’s radar for some time as content occasionally violates our community guidelines, including hate speech, glorifying violence, and the spread of misinformation . In the past few months we have sent several alerts to the server admin, « Discord said in a statement. « To be clear, we haven’t banned this server for financial fraud related to GameStop or any other stock. Discord welcomes a wide variety of personal finance discussions, from investment clubs and day traders to college students and professional financial advisors. »

Senators Susan Collins, R-ME, and Tim Kaine, D-VA, privately float the idea of reprimanding Trump as the chances of being convicted after impeachment are diminishing without substantial Republican support, according to Axios .
On Tuesday, 45 Senate Republicans voted against holding a trial for Trump’s impeachment and dismissed the trial as « unconstitutional ». While the 45-55 split will allow the process to move forward, such a critical mass of Republican opposition doesn’t bode well for a proper condemnation that would require a two-thirds majority in the Senate. At least seventeen other Senate Republicans are required to convict.
On Wednesday, the Russian parliament voted to extend the new START treaty by five years and present President Joe Biden with an early diplomatic victory.
Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on an extension of the contract earlier this week in a state phone call.
After its dubious designation by the CDC as the worst state to issue COVID-19 vaccines, Missouri suffered only one more outrage: Governor Mike Parson had to give his annual speech in which he covered his COVID -19 response in front of a practically empty legislative chamber because – you understand – COVID-feared members of his own Republican Party were not ready to host it. He was unfortunately forced to move his speech from his usual venue to the smaller Senate Chamber. Participation was sparse.
