The appearance of Diablo 2 Resurrected at BlizzConline was announced ahead of time, along with several new details.
Well known insider PracticalBrush12, who went to Reddit earlier today, stated that Diablo 2 Resurrected will be a remaster, not a remake, as some earlier rumors claimed. Blizzard Entertainment will soon open an early tech alpha with a release for all major platforms including Nintendo Switch in late 2021. That makes for a simultaneous release that fans will surely appreciate.
Diablo 2 Resurrected runs at 60 frames per second with no major changes in gameplay. Similar to StarCraft Remastered, players can switch between the classic and the remastered graphics on the fly.
There will be some quality of life improvements, however. In addition to remastered audio and cinematics, Diablo 2 Resurrected offers an expanded tab with a statistics overview, as well as a shared stash, automatic gold pickup, and support for controllers. The redesigned game also allows players to compare items on the fly and take advantage of cross-progression between supported platforms.
There will appear to be no online requirements other than that players have to go online once to register their game. After that, you can continue to play offline if you want.
It has been claimed that Diablo 2 was remastered by developer Vicarious Visions, the New York-based studio behind the recent Crash Bandicoot remasters. This and the rest of the claims will be confirmed when BlizzConline takes place on February 19th and 20th. This will be the first all-digital rendering of the annual event in history due to COVID-19. Blizzard is also expected to release some updates for the upcoming mobile game Diablo Immortals.
Elsewhere, and perhaps the biggest news for Diablo 4 fans, Blizzard Entertainment will reveal the Rogue as fourth class on BlizzConline.
