World news – COVID UPDATE: New restrictions introduced in northern rivers

Hundreds of people stood in line for testing after Byron Bay-related COVID case numbers rose.

UPDATE 11.40 a.m.: According to NSW Premier, new restrictions on Byron, Ballina, Tweed and Lismore Shires will come into effect.

UPDATE 11.30am: NSW did not register any new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours until 8pm last night.

However, the Prime Minister and the Chief Health Officer are expected to provide a press conference starting at 8:30 p.m. from 11:30 a.m. on the developments since 8:00 p.m.

NSW Health has since announced new opportunities to meet up with the surge of cases arising from a bachelorette party in Byron Bay.

If you have been to these locations at the times indicated, you should get tested immediately and isolate until a negative result is received. Continue to monitor symptoms and have them retested if they occur:

UPDATE 11:06 a.m.: There were two new COVID-19 cases in a cluster linked to a chicken party in Byron Bay.

This brings the total in this cluster to nine, with the two most recent diagnoses being people who didn’t attend the party.

UPDATE 9.47 a.m .: The NSW government is expected to provide its latest COVID-18 update after 11.00 a.m.

Although it has been reported that some residents have received a text message from NSW Health indicating that a positive case of COVID-19 has visited the Henry Rous Tavern in Ballina, the venue on the NSW Health website is not as close or occasional contact location listed.

UPDATE 8:40 a.m .: Ballina residents have received messages from NSW Health asking them to get tested to see if they went to a popular pub over the weekend.

A person who visited the Henry Rous Tavern, 177 River Street, Ballina, on Sunday March 28, got a positive COVID-19 test, according to NSW Health.

The residents received a text message from NSW Health late Tuesday evening notifying them of the positive case.

The text urged anyone who might have been at the pub that day to get tested right away and isolate themselves until the results come back.

ORIGINAL: When the number of confirmed COVID-19-related cases related to Byron Bay rose to seven last night, authorities eagerly awaited the results of more than 800 tests conducted on Tuesday.

QLD Health confirmed five new cases related to a chicken party held over the weekend in Byron Bay, adding the two identified as early as Monday.

There are now seven confirmed cases of the UK variant of COVID-19 in a cluster linked to a chicken party in Byron Bay.

Acting Prime Minister Nicole Manison said authorities also urged travelers who had been to the Gold Coast after March 27 to self-isolate and get a test.

« We have now declared the additional hotspot for Byron Bay and the additional requirement for people who have arrived since March 26th to self-isolate for 14 days, » said Ms. Manison.

NSW authorities urged anyone who visited any of the locations listed below to get tested and isolated, and announced additional testing clinics to meet demand.

You will find occasional contact locations below. If you have been to any of these places by the times indicated, you should immediately self-isolate and get tested regardless of symptoms, and remain isolated until a negative result is received:
