Six Albertans are among record-breaking 46 players invited to compete for a spot on the Canadian team at the upcoming 2021 World Juniors in Edmonton
The 46 will compete at the Junior World Selection Camp between Nov 16 and Dec 13 in a cohort bubble in Red Deer
The camp will include practice, three intrasquad games and six games against a U Sports all-star team

The six guests from Alberta include Edmonton Oilers draft pick Dylan Holloway of Bragg Creek, Alta. and two Sherwood Park defensemen, Kaiden Guhle and Matthew Robertson of the Edmonton Oil Kings
Fort Saskatchewan’s Kirby Dach is also likely to make the squad after the Chicago Blackhawks freed him to compete ahead of the 2021 NHL season.
The camp roster includes five goaltenders, 15 defensemen and 26 forwards, and also includes 22 players selected from the 2020 NHL Draft as well as 18 prospects from the 2019 NHL Draft.
Returning guests from last year’s gold medal team include Quinton Byfield, Bowen Byram, Dylan Cozens, Jamie Drysdale, Connor McMichael and Dawson Mercer
This year’s tournament rosters may include two more skaters than last year, up to 22, as well as three goaltenders
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League opened its season on October 2 but restrictions and COVID epidemics forced teams to delay or postpone games
And the Western Hockey League is planning a 50-game season starting in January until May 2
Pre-tournament matches are scheduled between Dec 20 and Dec 23, as Canada face Sweden and Russia ahead of the tournament opening on Christmas Day
The tournament was to be co-hosted by Edmonton and Red Deer, but the International Ice Hockey Federation announced in September that the event would be held at Rogers Place alone with no fans due to COVID-19 precautions
All teams and officials will remain in the ice district, as in the bubble that hosted the NHL playoffs and the Stanley Cup final
The event was last held in Alberta in 2012 when Calgary and Edmonton co-hosted the tournament The World Juniors were last played in Canada in 2019 when Vancouver and Victoria went their separate ways
