Debris that could have come from a commercial plane has been found on a remote beach in Australia’s far north – sparking new hopes of finding the missing MH370 plane

Mick Elcoate was fishing on a secluded beach about seven kilometers north of Cape Tribulation in far north Queensland when he spotted a stranded wreck on Monday morning

«  My first thoughts were that it was either part of the rudder of a yacht or maybe a trim on an aircraft,  » said M Elcoate to Daily Mail Australia

Debris found on isolated beach in far north Queensland (pictured) could lead to a new twist in the search for the missing MH370 plane

M Elcoate said he had no expertise in aircraft structures, so he decided to share the photos with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Facebook group « to see if anyone could identify it »

M Elcoate was encouraged to contact the Australian Transportation Safety Board, which he did. He shared photos of the debris with the federal agency on Tuesday

The MH370, a Malaysia Airlines plane, disappeared from radar screens carrying 239 people, including six Australians, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014

However, the remains found on Monday are unlikely to belong to the missing Boeing 777 – as part of a wing was found in Reunion Island, east of Madagascar, in 2015, more than 10,000 km away

The avionics technician took photos of the wing-like structure, which was covered in sand and shells (photo)

‘Reported today on Facebook, a mysterious component that looks like a B737 or B777 finishing apron has washed up north of Cape Tribulation

Aviation researcher Mick Gilbert told The Australian he doesn’t believe the find was from the doomed Malaysian Airlines flight

« The part does not show enough aging, has relatively sparse barnacle growth and is almost certainly the wrong color, » he said.

«  If it is indeed an aircraft component, it is more likely to be a piece of Air Niugini Flight 73 which landed below the runway of Chuuk International Airport in September 2018′
