Sydney was hit by a severe thunderstorm with large hailstones, noxious winds and heavy rain, causing havoc in the city and the surrounding areas.

The thunderstorm came in on Monday afternoon and issued warnings of life-threatening flash floods that leave a trail of destruction.

More than 10. 000 lightning strikes were recorded across Sydney as thunderbolts echoed across the city under a dark, gloomy sky.

In heavy rain, the city was hit with 50 mm impact within 30 minutes on Nobbys Hill on the south coast of New South Wales, while wind gusts of 85 km / h were registered at Sydney Airport at around 4 a.m.. 30 o’clock.

The wild weather also wreaked havoc among drivers who struggled to see the road on the M4 and M7 motorways in western Sydney.

The state rescue service advised people to move their cars under cover and away from trees, remove loose objects from their properties, and stay away from fallen power lines.

‘If you see fallen branches or trees, do not try to remove them as they may have shut down power lines. If you have pets, it’s best to bring them with you. Never enter or drive through floods, ”warned the SES.

Sydney has seen seven consecutive rainy days and 17 wet days in the past three weeks.
