Residents of Brisbane and the Shores of Gold and Sunshine warned to prepare for a month of rain in less than a day

Southeast Queenslanders were asked to prep their homes and rethink the trip with a month of rain that should fall in less than a day.

Up to 150 mm of rain were forecast for Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine Coasts until Monday, the Bureau of Meteorology said.

The heaviest rain was expected on Sunday, along with storm winds, dangerous waves, and surf and flooding.

« It looks like there could be a month of rainfall in some locations within 12 to 18 hours, especially on Sunday evenings, » said meteorologist Rosa Hoff.

A slowly moving cold air mass moved east over the Great Dividing Range and brought rain on Friday.

Sunshine Coast Airport had 93mm of rain and North Stradbroke Island 80mm on Saturday morning before conditions relaxed that afternoon. But the massive weather system should be reloaded on Sunday.

« Today were the first signs that heavy rain was falling on Monday, » said Hoff.

From Fraser Island to the New South Wales border, there was a severe weather warning of noxious winds, abnormally high tides and dangerous surf. Gusts of up to 90 km / h were possible.

Swells up to 4. It was expected to be 5 m and a high water alarm for low-lying areas was available.

Significant beach erosion in coastal areas was also possible until Tuesday, when a new moon king flood was forecast.

Mark Ryan, the Queensland Secretary of Fire and Emergency Services, said people need to plan ahead if they want to travel.

« Have a backup plan including an alternate route if the weather changes, » he said.

He also urged people to prepare their homes and protect their loved ones. « Staying indoors in bad weather, clearing dirt from the house, and having emergency and evacuation plans in place are all simple steps people can take, » he said.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife urged people to reconsider plans to visit national parks in the southeastern state in wild weather.

Meanwhile, storms threw overnight rain on central north and north New South Wales, with parts of the state on flood watch and not resting for at least another day.

Coffs Harbor got 180mm in less than 24 hours while Bowraville was the hardest hit area at 195mm.

From Saturday, flooding of the rivers in the region was also to be expected. The rivers Bellingen and Kalang have already reported minor to major floods.

Alex Majchrowski of the Bureau of Meteorology said the regions would handle more rainfall on Saturday and remain at risk of flooding.

The NSW state rescue service sent additional volunteers, including flood rescue technicians, to the area to handle requests for assistance.

The SES advised those affected by floods never to drive through floods and to seek refuge in the highest available location if necessary.
