UPDATE 145h: The Meteorological Office warns that at 1:30 p.m. severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the northwest area of Toowoomba, the south area of Kingaroy, the area north of Nanango and Linville
They are expected to hit the area north of Toowoomba, Nanango and Elgin Vale at 2:00 p.m. and the ranges between Gympie and Murgon, Crows Nest and Jimna at 2:30 p.m.
The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advise people to:
* Move your car away from or sheltered from trees
* Secure outdoor loose items
* Never drive, walk or cross flood waters If it’s flooded, forget it
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees
* Avoid using the phone during a thunderstorm
* Beware of fallen trees and power lines
* For emergency assistance contact SES at 132500
EARLIER: The skies have turned dark over much of the Burnett, with several large storms having already hit the area
The Bureau of Meteorology issues a severe thunderstorm warning at 12:30 p.m. today for the region, warning of damaging winds, hail and heavy rain
