Manchester United made it easy for humble Aston Villa to extend their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League at Bescot Stadium after a 2-0 win.
The visitors took the lead on 25 minutes when Hayley Ladd put a perfectly weighted ball into the box for Leah Galton, which smoothly pushed the ball into the lower left corner.
Former Arsenal youth player Lauren James almost doubled United’s lead when her hard work hit the bottom of the crossbar from the edge of the box.
United continued in the 89. Minute after a mistake by Villa goalkeeper Lisa Weiss, continued to push and collect the points. Ella Toone sealed the win by knocking Weiss, who was far from her line, out of the way with a long shot from outside the box.
The result extends United’s unbeaten start to the season and they lead runner-up Arsenal by four points ahead of Sunday’s game, while Villa is two points behind after just one win of the season.
