Hi hi I am your humble GIVEMESPORT writer tonight and to say things have been mental tonight would be, well, the mother of all euphemias Stay with me here
Just when we thought things couldn’t be crazier as Jose Mourinho and Tottenham Hotspur fleeing 6-1 winners at Manchester United, Villa vs Liverpool decided to happen
Let us all remember for a second that Liverpool only lost two Premier League games in their winning campaign last year
Of course, one of them could have come against Watford, but the losses against Manchester City and Arsenal were quite forgivable when they made their way through 99 points
And so, you’d be forgiven for thinking that moving Liverpool to a side that barely avoided relegation last season would be a formality after their good start to the season
What beats Dean Smith’s men when you’ve already beaten Leeds United, Chelsea and Arsenal, am I right? Yeah, well, football just had to go and football right?
The first goal came thanks to a terrible mistake from Adrian, allowing the dear signing of Ollie Watkins to score, before Ross Barkley missed a glorious opportunity for a second
However, Liverpool were certainly not out of jail and by the time they responded to Watkins’ second with a Mohamed Salah goal, John McGinn went and regained the two-goal advantage
Then just to make things even crazier Watkins helped himself to a hat-trick in the first half to put Villa 4-1 even before he was done. What is this sport ??!
Jurgen Klopp has been forced to give his fair share of dramatic team talks as Liverpool manager, but I’m not sure many will compare to trying to rally his side for a return to Villa Park
While we may have seen the Reds produce miracles against Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, we have rarely seen Klopp’s side at Liverpool produce such a terrible defensive display
It shows that even the best get their days off, some happen to have worse days off than others. At least they have United for company, eh?
