The Detroit Lions have another candidate for their vacant general manager job. According to ESPN’s Ian Rapoport and Lindsey Thiry, Lions are expected to interview the college’s current Rams director, Brad Holmes.
Holmes has spent his entire 18-year NFL career with the Rams organization. He started out there in public relations but quickly switched to the scouting side of the business. There he spent 15 years scouting and eventually became director of College Scouting in 2013.
Since 2013, Holmes has been partially responsible for moving the Rams from a mediocre 7-9 team to a multi-year playoff team under head coach Sean McVay. Holmes has been involved in some of her most successful draft picks, including scouting Aaron Donald in 2014.
The Atlanta Falcons are also expected to interview Holmes as well. The hawks may have a leg in Detroit as Holmes is from Atlanta and has foraged the area in the past.
Since Holmes is currently employed by the Rams, the Lions will not be able to interview him until the regular season is over. Under the new COVID-19 regulations, Detroit can request a virtual interview with Holmes after the regular season ends, even if the Rams are still in the playoffs, and Los Angeles cannot refuse that interview. In other words, Lions could meet him as early as Jan.. Interview January – less than two weeks away.
