Fans took to Twitter about the race for mainstream tickets, which went on sale Tuesday at 9 a.m., with one of them writing: « I always knew that would be the most popular ticket in town!  »

Those who were ready, armed with a computer and their credit card details, managed to get tickets when they jumped online at 9 a.m.

« I’ve been trying ever since I stepped out of the stupid queue, there’s no way now that a few people who are not supporters of either team will get tickets just because and me I’m so angry and upset [at the moment], ”said one

« I know a guy at the office who hopped in line at 901am and got two awesome seat tickets for $ 434 each I jumped on them 10 minutes later and got stuck in the big queue. ‘wait and I missed but it’s ok! Well done AFL Queensland !!! PS nether of our teams are playing « said another

« If available, tickets will be released through Ticketmaster at 12:00 PM AEST, Thursday, October 22 Tickets will be strictly limited and subject to availability, » he says

Ticket sales came after 2,200 Geelong members and 3,500 Richmond members secured the first dibs and secured their seats

AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said on Monday he was eager to see 30,000 fans in the grand final when he was 12,000 under capacity

« This will be the toughest PM job, it couldn’t be harder for these two clubs – to be away for so long and to fight and win the prelims against the local clubs, and they deserve to be there «

Queensland Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the AFL season held in Queensland attracted $ 70 million to our economy

« And no one can deny that having a grand final here in Queensland will be a huge boost for the AFL base here in Queensland, » she said.

« Over the past five years we have seen a 500% increase in the number of girls playing AFL in Queensland alone »

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the general public ticket allocation ran out on Friday morning
