Gilmour Space Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Northrop Grumman to jointly develop technologies to improve Australia’s space capabilities.
Under the newly signed agreement, Northrop Grumman will partner with Gilmour in a Cooperative Research Center (CRC) project to develop composite tanks for low-cost space transportation, said Adam Gilmour, CEO of Gilmour Space.
« It is great to have the support of Northrop Grumman, who through this investment has further demonstrated their commitment to increasing Australia’s space capacity, » he said.
“With the right support, innovative, well capitalized and highly skilled Australian space companies like Gilmour Space will emerge as future Australian space prime numbers. We look forward to working with Northrop Grumman to bring our first commercial payloads into orbit in 2022. ”
Other industry partners of the CRC project are Griffith University and Etamax Engineering. They will make and test tanks up to two meters in diameter. According to material from Gilmour Space, the project will be the first collaboration with the US aerospace giant under the agreement.
Chris Deeble, General Manager of Northrop Grumman Australia, said the company’s approach is in line with the government’s recently announced Modern Manufacturing Strategy to design and manufacture space hardware in Australia.
« Northrop Grumman is committed to leading industry support in developing Australian space capabilities to meet defense needs and deliver the Australian space agency’s vision, » he said.
