Jolly, who played two seasons of The Block with his ex-wife Deanne and won the 2015 series, drew a frenzied reaction from her followers and the AFL community after a lengthy Instagram post

But Paul Connors, who was Jolly’s manager during a 13-year AFL career that included stints with the Demons, Swans and Magpies, confirmed later that night that the 38-year-old years was fine

Jolly has played 237 games and was part of the Swans and Magpies teams who hailed in the Grand Finals 2005 and 2010 respectively

He got his full builder’s license after he and Deanne made a huge profit of $ 935,000 on the property they renovated on The Block in 2015

But his life has been filled with challenges from that point on, which he detailed in a moving acceptance speech after being awarded the Lifetime Membership by Collingwood Football Club earlier this year.

The former ruckman fought through tears as he spoke about his personal and professional issues and how they got him to spend time in the hospital

“Since 2015, I have faced extremely difficult challenges in my life that I never thought I would have to face. Challenges that have tested me in every way,” Jolly told a captivated audience

« This includes being admitted to the hospital to have a brain tumor removed after being told by a GP that I had just had a sinus infection

« Spending three weeks in a mental institution to deal with depression Leaving my 15 year marriage

« After a long, slow burn, I had this unrealistic expectation that I could fix everything on my own » It’ll be fine, I’ll fix it « , I told myself I kept telling myself and myself and other that I was okay and acting like everything was okay when in fact it wasn’t

« One day I finally recognized that I couldn’t get over this mess on my own and needed some help It was the day I almost did something stupid and put end of my life It was all too much to handle and I lost control I lost my will to continue, I lost my purpose in life

« I lost my direction and lost my way I thought it was easier to go I am not ashamed to stand here tonight and tell you that I have passed time in the hospital to sort out my problems I look back now and can say it was the best thing I could have ever done

« I have learned a lot about mental illness including depression and coping mechanisms to get me back on track as there are still challenges to overcome. I am in a much better head space now for manage them

« I now enjoy talking about my experiences, as one it helps me recover and two I hope telling people about my experiences could help them overcome their problems and difficulties and show them that men who have played at the AFL or men the general is not immune to the struggles of life

« I have great people around to help me out now, the three people who are here with me tonight, my buddies and my mental health professionals I take each day as it comes and keep working for a happy and more fulfilling life I’m going to get out of this and be a better man for it «
