. . The Victorian Government will closely monitor the success or failure of its COVID-19 logs when crowds return to the MCG for the first time since March.

Cricket’s flagship boxing day test will be a test case for Victoria’s COVID-19 logs as the state government considers increasing the crowd’s capacity at sporting events starting next month.

Up to 30. 000 cricket fans will flock through the MCG gates on the first day of the second Test between Australia and India, when the crowd returns to the famous venue for the first time since March.

The limit was originally 25. 000 but raised earlier this month as Victoria’s days continued without a locally acquired coronavirus case.

This series has now reached 57 days and Victoria’s Sports Minister Martin Pakula raised hopes on Saturday that the number of participants could soon be increased beyond the current 30 percent of the capacity of a venue.

The news comes that Melbourne still has a chance to get the third test in the Border Gavaskar series – which was released on Jan.. Set to start January – if Cricket Australia decides to relocate it from Sydney amid the recent coronavirus outbreak.

Melbourne will also host Big Bash League games later in January, with the prospect of larger attendance numbers.

« If we keep this COVID-free run and keep these very low numbers and good testing numbers, there is a chance that more people will be present at future events, » Pakula said.

« This (Boxing Day Test) has always been the event where we have been more conservative about the audience.

{. «

It has been 173 days since the MCG played sport and 292 days since viewers visited the venue due to Victoria’s coronavirus battles and mid-year lockdown measures.

« It is a great tribute to the work of the Victorians and a great tribute to the work of Cricket Australia and the Melbourne Cricket Club, which is the world’s premier venue turning 30 today. 000 viewers up to date.

« People had a great Christmas here in Melbourne and were looking forward to being back in the ‘G, back in cricket and hoping the Aussies could take the series 2-0. « . «
