After the Renegades won the litter and settled on first field, Scorchers openers Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone tried an aggressive start but struggled to find the center of the bat and consequently the line.

Then, in the middle of the sixth round, the Renegades released Afghanistan’s left arm, Noor Ahmad, who bamboozled Livingstone and had Sam Harper surprise him.

Noor Ahmad and the other weirdos Peter Hatzoglou and Mohammad Nabi then did an excellent job as Roy’s timing has not improved. Although Noor Ahmad threw two no-balls in his first two overs.

Roy’s frustrating stroke ended 27 balls out of 32 when he was caught by Captain Aaron Finch bowling at Jack Prestwidge.

Josh Inglis and Colin Munro then found a rhythm on the wicket and lit the home crowd as they put together a clever and decisive booth for the third wicket. Despite their team’s lack of dynamism, Inglis and Munro courageously opted for the “Power Surge” option – and they paid off by taking 16 runs from Hatzoglou in the first round.

The Scorchers entered the duel on Sunday afternoon with great momentum after an impressive New Year’s Eve victory over the Adelaide Strikers – the first of a BBL double headed game. Paceman Jhye Richardson scored a summer best before a steady hitting performance sealed Perth’s first win. The Renegades are in shape, however, having lost their last five straight games, including losing to the Sydney Thunder two days ago.

Melbourne’s only win that summer actually came against the Scorchers in both teams’ first game of the summer.

The Scorchers flopped after winning the bat flip and choosing to hit first. 1 overs when Kane Richardson and Josh Lalor snapped three wickets apiece. The experienced openers Shaun Marsh (62) and Aaron Finch (35) then set the tone for a comfortable chase and reached the goal with seven wickets and 21 balls.

Locals from WA are already streaming through the gates of the Optus Stadium to see their team live in action for the first time.

Attention then turns to Metricon Stadium, where both the Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers are hoping to make it back to the winners list.

The Sixers had won four games at a trot last night before surprisingly losing four goals against the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba.

Adelaide also suffered a disgruntled loss after beating the Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval on New Year’s Eve – the Scorchers’ first victory in their BBL campaign from a sluggish start.
