The 31-year-old had just signed a third round of 67 at The American Express and was at the top at 15 under the leadership of Max Homa and Si Woo Kim. Finau, one of the most popular players in the game, is back in search of his second PGA Tour title … again.
« It’s exhausting, but I applaud this challenge, » he said as he finished the inevitable Questions were asked about trying to win Tour Title # 2. « By that I mean, every time I play, I challenge myself to prove that I can do it again and I know that I can. I feel like the skills are good at a high level. Me will have many opportunities to win tournaments. ”
Sunday marks the fourth time Finau has taken at least part of the lead in the finals since winning the Puerto Rico Open in 2016. On these earlier opportunities, including the last February in Phoenix, he is 0-3.
« Every time I fail to close one tournament I never think, ‘Wow, I’ll let another one slip. I will never have that opportunity again, » he said . « For me it’s like: ‘What have I learned? How can I incorporate what I have learned into the next opportunity?’ And tomorrow I have another opportunity. »
