Brisbane detectives arrested a man after alleged carjacking in Woolloongabba in which a woman was dragged several hundred meters before the vehicle crashed.
Police say a man and woman in a blue Mitsubishi Lancer hatchback parked in the Buranda mall parking lot in front of Nando’s restaurant around 7:30 p.m.
The man went in to collect food and left the car running while the woman waited in the passenger seat.
It is believed that a man was in the driver’s seat before he drove off. He allegedly pushed the woman out of the vehicle and hauled her several hundred yards while the car drove erratically before crashing into a brick retaining wall outside a church on O’Keefe Street.
An 18-year-old man from Ellen Grove was charged with illegal motor vehicle entry, violent robbery, hazardous operation of a vehicle causing serious injury, imprisonment and illicit driving.
Detectives appeal to dashcam recordings from the Buranda Shopping Center between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone who witnessed the incident or noticed a man acting suspiciously in the area is asked to contact the police. The man is described as a native, with curly man bun hair, black shorts, black t-shirt, and a black, white, and red hoodie.
