World news – America’s « Grit »: Amy Klobuchar’s Complete Speech at Joe Biden’s Inauguration

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar was among a small number of people who had the opportunity to address the inauguration of President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

Minnesota’s senior senator, a Democrat, promised to « Never taking our democracy for granted » after the US Capitol was besieged – where Klobuchar temporarily oversaw the certification of votes by the Senate.

Because of her status as the senior member of the Senate Committee, Klobuchar played a prominent role in the Event on Wednesday.

Vice President Pence, Mr. President-Elect, Mrs. Vice President, Members of Congress and the Judiciary, Former Presidents and First Ladies, Vice Presidents, Foreign Leaders, and a slew of Biden. America, welcome to the 59th inauguration of President, when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will take their solemn oaths in moments.

This ceremony marks the culmination of 244 years of democracy. It is the moment when leaders, brought to this level by the will of the people, promise to remain faithful to our Constitution, to appreciate it and to defend it. It is the moment when, like all of us, they become the guardians of our country.

Have we become too exhausted and too used to the ritual of handing over the torch to democracy to really appreciate what a blessing and a privilege it is to witness this moment?

When two weeks ago an angry, violent mob staged a riot and desecrated this temple of our democracy, they awakened us to our responsibility as Americans.

This is the day our democracy will stand up, dust off the dust and do what America always does: forward as a nation, under God, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all.

This mediation of sacred trust between Our leaders and our people is taking place in front of that luminous dome of the Capitol for a reason.

Inauguration Day Schedule: When will Joe Biden be sworn in as President?

When Abraham Lincoln delivered his first inaugural address to this Capitol, the dome was only partially built and braced with steel cables. He promised to end it. He has been criticized for spending money on it during the Civil War. He replied to these critics: « When people see the Capitol, it is a sign that we intend for the Union to go on. »

Under this dome, great civil rights and economic security and leadership legislation has been put in place discussed and worked out in the world.

Now it is up to all of us, not just the two leaders we are inaugurating today, to take over the torch of our democracy, not as a weapon of political arson, but as an instrument for good.

We pledge today to never take our democracy for granted when we celebrate its remarkable strength.

We celebrate the common people in our nation who do extraordinary things every day: the nurses on the front lines of the pandemic , the officer in the Capitol, a new generation who will never give up hope in justice.

We’re celebrating a new President, Joe Biden, who swears the soul of America s and cross the flow of our divisions to take us to a higher plane.

And we’re celebrating our first African American, first Asian American and first Vice President, Kamala Harris, who appeared on this platform and across the country Shoulders of so many who have paved the way to this day.

When she takes the oath of office, little girls and boys around the world know that anything and everything is possible.

And in the end this is America , our democracy, a land of so much good. And today, on these Capitol steps and in front of this flag field, we are back to his cause.

It is now an honor for me to introduce you to the Senator who has worked with me and so many others to make this ceremony possible, my friend and the chairman of the opening committee, Missouri Senator Roy Blunt.
