Saad’s deal involves Essendon trading the 26-year-old and picking 48 and 78 for the Blues, in exchange for picking 8 and 87
Kangaroo cats gave 30 picks in draft as part of the Higgins trade
After completing Saad’s move to Al Blues, the bombers have now chosen six, seven, and eight for this year’s AFL project.
“We now have three of the top 10 AFL National Project Draft Picks for this year, which is a very strong position to be in, especially with this year’s category draft level,” Essendon List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said
Saad started his football career in the Gold Coast, and played three seasons for The Sun before moving to Essendon at the end of 2017
He played 109 matches and will now be in his third NFL team for the 2021 season
With the trade period ending at 7:30 PM EST on Thursday, Saad’s deal could allow for a flurry of club deals
Essendon could use one of her top picks to secure Western Bulldogs midfielder Josh Dunkley, with reports that the Bulldogs are watching Adam Treloar from Collingwood
Also on the list of potential deals to be completed are GWS striker Jeremy Cameron – who has announced Geelong as his chosen destination – and Demons striker Ben Brown, who wants to join North Melbourne
Higgins, whose sister Daniel was a member of the NFL’s Geelong Squad, played 237 big matches with the Western Kangaroos and Bulldogs, winning all Australian titles in 2018
