Weltnachrichten – USA – Panthers apply for permission to interview Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at the GM opening

. .

The Carolina Panthers have begun asking for permission to interview general manager candidates from various teams and, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, one of them is Cleveland Brown’s vice president of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

This was something that NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo had missed the previous weekend.

Mensah is a former commodities trader who has invested heavily in understanding data trends and using analytics. He’s trying to create a better foundation for football, but the Panthers’ new owner also has a strong belief in analytics which would explain the interest.

The Panthers apparently already have a head coach in Matt Rhule who is receiving a substantial amount of money and would apparently be Mensah’s boss based on that investment.

It’s important to note that if the Panthers hired Mensah for this position, the Browns would be standing in line to get a pair of round three picks with this new rule from the NFL to encourage teams Recruiting minorities and developing front office leaders.

They’d have to replace the vice president of Football Ops, but they wouldn’t leave the deal empty-handed.

Mensah may need more soccer experience and expertise before he can seriously consider this type of job. Or maybe he wants more experience so he can dictate the terms of the type of job he wants, rather than being married to a head coach like Rhule.
