Two pilots were forced to retreat to safety after disembarking their aircraft in an emergency this afternoon at Amberley RAAF base west of Brisbane.
The aircraft is believed to have been damaged while taking off at the base, approximately 50 km southwest of Brisbane.
The Department of Defense confirmed that an incident had occurred this afternoon but did not comment on the details of the incident.
« The defense can confirm that an Air Force aircraft incident occurred at RAAF Amberley base, » a defense spokesman said in a statement.
« The crew of this aircraft are safe and no other personnel were involved in the incident.
« Defense’s first priority is the safety of personnel at RAAF Base Amberley. The defense will provide further information once the emergency measures related to the incident are completed.
« The cause of the incident is currently unknown and is under investigation. « »
