Weltnachrichten – AU – The « dark » truth behind James Magnussen’s Olympic success

. . The Australian Olympian revealed the truly devastating cost of his athletic fame in an emotional moment on SAS Australia.

. .

Two-time 100-meter freestyle world champion James Magnussen revealed the sad costs of his sporting success in a moving moment on Monday evening at SAS Australia.

The 29-year-old described his efforts to open up emotionally and how he continued to shut himself off from his emotions after forcibly blocking them during his swimming career.

« It got pretty dark there when I got a lot of criticism, not just in the media but also in public, » said Magnussen.

« As a 20-year-old kid, I didn’t really know how to deal with it, so I made a decision back then that I will never let emotions overwhelm me again. « .

The man nicknamed « The Missile » was embroiled in controversy early in his career, especially after his bravery shot back at him with a disappointing performance at the London 2012 Olympics.

While his ability to divide his emotions helped him at the time, he admitted that it bothers him now that he has difficulty feeling positive emotions.

« When I was a little younger and still swam, you can’t allow yourself to be emotional that day. That has always been my reasoning that I can’t afford to be emotional.

« Now that the high performance side is being taken away, I still behave like a top athlete. ”

The SAS Australia Directing Staff then found that Magnussen had been blocking his emotions for nearly a decade.

« It’s (a long time). I’ve had some really big hits in my life since then and I feel like I’m just doing flatlining, ”he said.

« I get sad, I get angry – but I don’t get the high heights either. ”

Fox, who had been in the military for 20 years, then had some wisdom for the freestyle champion.

« I can see things in you that are to some extent within us (me and Mark Billingham). We divide (our emotions), « Fox said.

« The thing is emotions, although people see them as an obstacle, they are something you need, that’s what drives you sometimes. ”
