Weltnachrichten – AU – Something for pugilist purists and fair-weather fans, while Tim Tszyu and Paul Gallen lead another fight night

. . Everything you need to know when Tim Tszyu returns to the ring to take on Kiwi fighter Bowyn Morgan as former NRL star Paul Gallen meets mixed martial arts legend Mark Hunt at the Western Sydney Stadium.

. .

Australian boxing chosen Tim Tszyu steps back into the ring for his second stadium fight of the year over dangerous New Zealander Bowyn Morgan tonight at the Western Sydney Stadium.

This Sydney Superfight shows that the recent revival of Australian boxing is already well underway. A jam-packed undercard full of talent (and a pinch of novelty) will end the year with a bang.

And in great news for the Aussie (and the Kiwi), the WBO announced on Monday that the fight would be elevated to a world title eliminator.

Should Tszyu win, he will fight either with the Brazilian belt holder Patrick Teixeira or the Argentine challenger Brian Castro for the world junior middleweight title.

Tim Tszyu, like his father Kostya, has become the face of Australian boxing, the standard bearer of sport.

After a string of impressive wins against the best of the domestic opposition, Tszyu climbed to second place on the WBO junior middleweight division and fourth on the IBF list.

Tszyu’s devastating win over Jeff Horn in August cemented his place at the top of the Australian boxing pile, and the only way to go is further in the direction of a World Championship lean.

Morgan, a former Commonwealth Games competitor who reached the 2014 welterweight quarter-finals in Glasgow and holds the WBU welterweight belt in the side world, started boxing in the tiny town of Runanga on the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

Kiwi, 31, who has a professional record of 21 wins – 11 by knockout – and one knockout loss to Aussie Kris George in 2016, was ready for a shot in the IBF Pan Pacific Welterweight to COVID Title -19 intervened.

As a result, he hasn’t fought in over a year and turned down a fight against Tszyu last year, which the Australian describes as a big mistake.

Now he’s looking for a « life changing » surprise against the acclaimed Tszyu – but the odds are strong against him.

The son of the Australian legend Kostya Tszyu is quickly making a name for himself in the fighting profession. And legendary trainer Johnny Lewis says he has what it takes to be just like his father – a world champion.

First of all, Morgan has never fought an opponent of the Tszyu caliber – and never before in a large stadium.

He fights from an orthodox position and is very left dominant. He finds success against his previous opponents with a solid push and large, left loops on his body, but he has to be much sharper and faster if he is to hurt Tszyu.

However, it will likely have to work indoors to cause Tszyu problems – something Morgan described as his rival’s « greatest weakness » – as it reveals a disadvantage of a whopping 14 cm range.

However,

Morgan said that with this less expansive boxing style, he would likely have to take out Tszyu to take the win at Western Sydney Stadium.

Former NRL Hardman Gallen, who is dubiously billed as a co-main event, will take on MMA legend Hunt just before the headline.

Some promotional materials have referred to this as a fight between two big men with big mouths, which seems like a fair description as neither of them were shy about promoting the six-round heavyweight competition.

Hunt, 46, called Gallen, 39, a « Grub » and is firmly convinced that he will take off the former Sharks star.

Meanwhile, Gallen says the pressure is on the « Super Samoan », who will be without a win in almost four years, and says that a defeat would further tarnish the legacy of the big hitter in battle.

Hunt has had only two professional boxing forays in his long fighting career – a draw and a loss – although both occurred more than 20 years ago.

Since then, Hunt has won a handful of super heavyweight (30-13) kickboxing titles and competed in MMA for 14 years, including the UFC which ended with a no-competition 13-14-1 record.

Gallen, who has 9 wins and 1 draw from his 10 professional fights, has beaten John Hopoate, Junior Paulo and Randall Rayment, but could only get a draw in his last game against former AFL star Barry Hall.

The evening’s pay-per-view element starts at 7:00 p.m. (AEDT), but there are four fights before Tszyu and Morgan go on their ring walks.

The first of the bouts on the undercard is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. AEDT and can be followed on Foxtel.

Tickets are available to watch the fight in person at the Western Sydney Stadium, but if that’s what you don’t like then you have to shell out anyway.

The fight will take place on Fox Sports’ pay-per-view channel, Main Event, and will cost you $ 59. 95 for the privilege.

However, you can follow the fight on our live blog from 6:30 p.m. AEDT, including Hunt vs Gallen and the full undercard.

We don’t know exactly when Gallen will enter the ring, but it is the final battle of a stacked card with some of the brightest stars in Australian boxing.

Before the co-main events, there are also two regional title fights with which you can whet your appetite.

Darragh Foley (18-4-1) v Ty Telford (6-0-1) – Free WBA Oceania, IBF Pan Pacific, IBO Asia Pacific super light weight titles.

Paul Fleming (26-0) versus Bruno Tarimo (25-2-1) – Free Preliminary WBA Oceania, IBF International Super Featherweight Title.
