Since leaving Summer Bay, a home and away villain has undergone a drastic transformation and we can barely recognize him.

Sam Atwell was the center of our screens as Home and Away villain Kane Phillips from 2001 to 2009. Now the actor looks very different from his time on the bay.

It appears that the 41-year-old has traded his mostly clean-shaven look for an impressive beard and mustache and has chosen to wear a hat on all of his recent photos.

Over Christmas, Sam joined the cast of Irish soap opera Fair City to showcase his new look on our television screens.

The Irish Sun played the character of « Barbie Man » and reported that fans were delighted to see the home and away alum come back on screens.

Not only did Sam show up in soaps, but he wasn’t shy about sharing his new look on Instagram.

In August 2020, Sam posted a photo of himself with a brown hat, black sunglasses and of course his new signature facial hair while enjoying a beer in the Irish countryside.

While Sam was in front of the camera over Christmas, the 41-year-old has been working behind the scenes as a script consultant, producer and director for some time.

But given that Sam’s latest on-screen role is such a hit, is a return to Summer Bay planned? The actor’s Home and Away wife, Kirsty Sutherland (played by Christie Hayes) certainly hasn’t ruled this out.

When Christie spoke to Digital Spy in 2019, she confessed that she was grateful for her time at Home and Away and would consider returning to the soap. However, the actress pointed out that the controversial storylines surrounding the romance of Kane and Kirsty wouldn’t fly these days.

« It wasn’t even that long ago, but I look back on the storylines we did on home and away and I think, ‘That would never be okay now!' » Christie told the publication.

« I don’t think they’d get away with anything like this these days. Which is good – I think it just forces the writers to think outside the box and be a little bit more creative.

« But to hell, no. I can’t imagine that so much is going down now – not at all. ”

We’ll have to wait and see if Sam returns to Summer Bay – hopefully less of a problem – and whether or not he brings his new look with him.
