Education Minister Dan Tehan has been given the gigantic task of reestablishing trade ties with China as he moves on to the trade portfolio.
Mr Tehan, a former diplomat, was one of the few to change positions in a modest ministerial reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday.
The portfolio has been added to cabinet, but Health Secretary Greg Hunt will take responsibility.
The youth portfolio was also taken from him and given to Alan Tudge, who will become Minister of Education.
Home Secretary Peter Dutton, Defense Secretary Linda Reynolds and all National Party Ministers remain in their positions.
Alex Hawke will move to the immigration portfolio while the cabinet will maintain the same number of women.
David Coleman will return to Parliament and the Ministry after a year of vacation, but only as Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
Jane Hume will join the ministry with responsibility for financial services and the digital economy, while Zed Seselja will take over international development and the Pacific.
Queensland Liberal Senator Amanda Stoker will serve as Assistant Secretary of the Attorney General, while Western Australian Andrew Hastie will serve as Secretary of Defense.
