Second power outage hits large portion of Madison County


    UPDATE: In a noon statement, Huntsville Utilities said crews were at the northwestern distribution substation attempting to restore power to northern Madison County.

    Here is an update on the power outage impacting the northern part of Madison County.

    MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – Huntsville Utilities said yet another outage occurred across large portions of Madison County late Monday morning.

    As of 11:30 a.m., power was out to several thousand customers across the county, clustered in the Merdianville/Hazel Green area, as well as west Madison County neighborhoods such as Capshaw, Harvest, Research Park, and Village of Providence. This is the same area impacted by a power outage late Sunday night.

    Huntsville Utilities Electric Operations is responding to a power outage in northern Madison County. This is the same area that was impacted by a distribution substation issue last night. Crews are working to determine the cause and restore service as quickly as possible.

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Starting at 5 p.m., all bars in Tuscaloosa will closed for the next 14 days in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the area.

    The decision by the city, in collaboration with the University of Alabama, was announced by Mayor Walt Maddox during a press conference Monday morning. In addition to bars being closed the next 14 days, bar services in restaurants will also be suspended for 14 days.     NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A small plane went off the runaway at Nashville International Airport early Monday morning.

    The Federal Aviation Administration said the twin-engine Beechcraft BE-58 veered off a runway after landing around 10:20 a.m. at Nashville International Airport. The aircraft stopped in the grass on the left side of the runway, according to the FAA spokesperson.

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama said it would have a dashboard listing the number of positive cases at all of its campuses go online Monday evening.

    UA system spokeswoman Kellee Reinhardt told News 19 Monday morning that the dashboard would be live at 5 p.m. Monday on that UA system website.
