Environment and Climate Change Canada issued several weather warnings early Thursday, indicating that there was expected early-season snowfall in some areas, including Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley

Precipitation combined with arctic air mass expected to land on the BC coast on Friday morning will bring a risk of wet snow to neighborhoods and pavements above 300 meters

The snow could lead to dangerous conditions on the Sea to Sky and Coquihalla highways, and the agency said early Friday it expected 10 to 20 inches of snow in BC’s mountain passes before narrowing to snow

Snowfall warnings were in effect for the 100 Mile, Chilcotin, East Kootenay, Fraser Canyon, Fraser Valley, Nicola, Okanagan Valley, Similkameen and South Thompson areas of the province as of Friday morning

On Friday afternoon, Kelowna RCMP issued a press release stating that Highway 33 near Idabel Lake had been closed due to weather conditions

Conditions are extremely freezing and many vehicles have slipped off the road or collided, RCMP said

Snow warnings and special weather reports are in effect across most of southern BC Mountain passes will receive the heaviest snow with 10-20cm possible before easing tonight Details: https: // tco / P6nBiPKCTQ # BCStorm @DriveBC # BCHwy3 # BCHwy5 # BCHwy97C picTwittercom / lRNtZwHBA7

The meteorological agency says arctic air will advance south to Inland C Friday afternoon, freezing air is expected to reach Kamloops and the eastern side of the Rockies

Widespread snow is expected from the Chilcotin and 100 Mile House area to the Fraser Canyon and east to the Kootenays and parts of the Columbias, according to the special weather report

Snow can mix with rain in southern and eastern parts of the province The agency forecasts snowfall of about five to 15 centimeters

The agency warns that mountain weather can change suddenly, leading to dangerous driving conditions
