The 147th Kentucky Derby is just around the corner! The race will take place in person at Churchill Downs, the historic circuit where the event has been held since 1875. This year the Kentucky Derby is taking place for the 147th time, and it’s safe to say that fans of the sport are downright excited – especially after the Derby last year. In place of the highly anticipated race in May 2020, a virtual race – the Kentucky Derby: Triple Crown Showdown – was presented in September, in which the historic champion’s secretariat « won ».
This year’s event is sponsored by Woodford Reserve, celebrating the rich history of black jockeys through its annual $ 1000 Mint Julep Cup charity program. Woodford Reserve will donate proceeds from the sale of special edition Julep cups to the Project to Project African American Turf History program, which aims to promote the history of Black Jockeys and their contributions to the sport.

This year’s derby traditionally takes place on the first Saturday in May, which happens to be the first day of the month. While coverage of all races starts at 12:30 p.m., the famous Derby is the last race of the day and is slated to start at 6:57 p.m. A full timeline and race schedule can be found here.
According to a press release from April 2021, the Kentucky Derby will only welcome a fraction of the fans to the race complex.
« We are currently assuming that we have the number of will have to limit reserved seating to 40 to 50% of capacity and delay general ticket sales until we get closer to the date of this year’s Kentucky Derby, ”the press release said. « As circumstances related to the spread of COVID-19 improve, we will sell more reserved seats and consider selling general admission tickets. »
Fans from near and far can expect the 147th Kentucky Derby on NBC. The reporting starts punctually at 12:30 p.m. (CET) and includes analyzes on race day and real-time reporting. The official Kentucky Derby race, presented by Woodford, will take place at precisely 6:57 p.m. ET.
You can stream the Derby through the NBC Sports website or on any iOS or Android device with the NBC Sports app. In addition, the event can be streamed via fuboTV, Sling TV, Hulu Live TV, Youtube Live TV, Roku, Xbox One and more. You’ll need to have a cable login, however, or sign up for a subscription or free trial.
