The US military has no plans to launch a runaway Chinese missile that is now heading for Earth, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Thursday.

« We have the ability to do many things, but we don’t plan to shoot them down while we speak, » Austin told journalists.

Pentagon experts expect the corpse of Long March 5B – Missile that fell from orbit after Beijing’s space station was separated, will surface sometime on Saturday or Sunday.

« We hope it will land in a place where it will not harm anyone. Hopefully in the sea or at a similar location, « said Austin.

He suggested that the Chinese negligently dropped the missile body from orbit.

» I think this speaks to the fact that for those of us who who operate in the space field, have a requirement, or should be required to operate in a safe and thoughtful mode, « Austin said.

There is a need to » make sure that we are planning and doing these kinds of things of operations, « he said.
