It is expected that it will become a tropical storm at any time, the weather authorities said at 4:00 p.m. Monday.
Later that weekend, it could be a threat to Florida, said meteorologist Roger Erickson, the National Weather Service Warning Coordination, adding that the storm could also threaten the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
