After seven seasons on the Kentucky bench under John Calipari, Tony Barbee has reportedly found a new position as head coach.

Barbee will be the new head coach of Central Michigan, replacing Keno Davis. This is the third time that Barbee has had the opportunity to run its own program.

The last time did not work out so well. In four Auburn seasons (2010-14), Barbee set an overall record of 49-75, and his team dealt with a variety of extrajudicial issues.

Barbee’s first outing as head coach was much better. He was 82-52 at UTEP from 2006 to 2010, finished runner-up at CBI in 2009, and was offered an NCAA tournament the following year.

Central Michigan is hiring Kentucky’s assistant Tony Barbee as its next head coach, sources told ESPN.

Barbee played for Calipari at UMass from 1989 to 1993 before starting his coaching career. His departure from Kentucky is part of a major reshuffle for Calipari employees this off-season.

Assistant trainer Joel Justus is also leaving the company and will take the top assistant position in the US state of Arizona. Current Illinois and former Kentucky assistant Orlando Antigua is reportedly the lead candidate to join Calipari’s staff again.

Brad Calipari, John’s son and former Kentucky companion, is likely to be in some way too, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony Way on board.
