ISLAMABAD –
Pakistani authorities on Wednesday reported 201 coronavirus deaths, the highest one-day number of pandemics in the country.

According to the National Command and Control Center, 5,292 new cases of infection have been reported in the past 24 hours.

The current boom has forced Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government to deploy troops to ensure that people in cities severely affected by coronavirus cases adhere to social distancing rules.

Pakistan plans to lock down the hardest hit cities in the first week of May. Khan has defied calls for a nationwide lockdown and cited the economic ramifications, but he has also warned that if people don’t stop violating social distancing rules, he will be forced to impose a lockdown > Pakistani Army troops are patrolling a business district to enforce new restrictions announced to control the spread of the coronavirus in Lahore, Pakistan on April 27, 2021.
