Four officials who testified Tuesday before the House Special Committee about the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol made emotional statements about being verbally and physically assaulted by rioters.

Four officials who testified Tuesday before the House Special Committee about the January 6 attack on the US Capitol gave emotional testimony that they were verbally and physically assaulted by rioters.

The Capitol Police Officers Aguilino Gonell and Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police Officers Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges spoke to the nine-member panel and recalled the injuries sustained and the emotional trauma of the day.

« I could have lost my life that day, not once, but many times, « said Officer Gonell.

Officer Gonell said he sustained injuries to both hands, left shoulder and right foot that he had already had surgery on.

He got emotional when he talked about his service that day, especially when he remembered family members calling him after watching the events on television.

The officer said when he got home early the next day, he couldn’t hug his wife because he was using chemicals was covered in sprays that rioters had put on him.

« My colleagues and I were kicked, beaten, pushed, and sprayed with chemical irritants, and even blinded by eye-damaging lasers, » said Officer Gonell.

District Officer Hodges said he remembers Wrestling with rioters who tried to take his baton.

He said people screamed verbal attacks, including threats that he would die on his knees.

At one point, Officer Hodges said there was a rioter attacked him to permanently blind him.

« One of them clutched my face and put his thumb in my right eye to gauge, » Officer Hodges said. “I screamed in pain. I managed to shake him off before permanent damage was done. ”District Official Fanone’s colleague said his badge was torn from his uniform, as well as his radio and ammunition that was attached to his body At some point during the riot, Officer Fanone said he was repeatedly electrocuted with a taser. « They started hitting me with their fists and hard metal objects, » Officer Fanone said . “At some point I was faced with an attacker who repeatedly attacked me and tried to remove my firearm. I heard chants from some in the crowd to get his gun and kill him with his own gun. ”

Capitol Police Officer Dunn, who is Black, said rioters yelled at him for racially charged attacks and looked at that N-word appointed.

Officer Dunn said attacks increased after he announced he had elected President Biden after rioters were accused of stealing the election.

« We are here to stop the theft. Joe Biden is not the president. Nobody voted for Joe Biden, « Officer Dunn recalled the testimony of rioters.

 » I do my best to keep politics out of my job, but under the circumstances I replied, ‘Well, I have for Joe Biden voted. Doesn’t my vote count? Am I nobody? « Said Officer Dunn.

 » That led to a deluge of racial designations. A woman in a pink MAGA shirt yelled, « You hear that, boys? That n ——— voted for Joe Biden » Officer Dunn said. « Nobody had ever, ever, ever called me to ——- while wearing a Capitol Police Officer’s uniform. » The Tuesday hearing began with opening remarks from Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson and the MPs Liz Cheney, one of two Republicans, alongside MP Adam Kinzinger who are on the panel.

Other committee members include MPs Zoe Lofgren, Adam B. Schiff, Jamie Raskin, Peter Aguilar, Stephanie Murphy, and Elaine Luria, all Democrats.

Mr. Kinzinger, Republican from Illinois, who became emotional over hearing officers share their experiences, reminded attendees that their memories were only a small sample of those facing the same fate e.

« There are four of you with stories, but there are hundreds with stories to represent you from your seat, » said Kinzinger.

The Justice Department has already indicted more than 500 people with the January 6 riot. More than 140 officers were injured in the incident, and a total of five people died, including Officer Brian Sicknick. His death was later classified by a coroner as being caused by a stroke.
