has confirmed with sources of the Indonesian Navy (Tentara Nasional Indonesia – Angkatan Laut: TNI-AL) that the missing boat is KRI

(402), who was classified as in distress after a missed call to TNI-AL on April 21 at around 3:00 a.m. local time.
The TNI-AL then sent an emergency call to the International Liaison Office for Submarine Escape and Rescue (ISMERLO) at around 09:37 in order to report the boat as missing, with the assumption that it had sunk.

It is believed to have disappeared about 42 km northwest of Singaraja on the island of Bali.

understands the submarine was in the area conducting a torpedo exercise scheduled for April 21st.
TNI-AL has sent several warships to the region, including the hydrographic ship KRI

(933) for the search. Other ships currently on site are the first-class Fatahillah corvette (361) of the TNI-AL, the leading corvette of the Bung Tomo class (357) and the corvette of the Kapitan Pattimura class (Parchim I).

Nanggala
is a ship built in Germany that has been in service since 1981. It is one of two Cakra-class submarines operated by the TNI-AL. It has a total length of approx. 60 m, displaces 1,400 tons when diving and can accommodate a crew of 34 people, including six officers.
