CM – Destiny 2’s Vault Of Glass heist opens on May 22nd

The Vault of Glass will return from the first game on Saturday May 22nd and host another raid race to challenge players.

The Destiny 1 heist Vault Of Glass will return to Destiny 2 on May 22nd, Bungie confirmed last night. And they have good news for people interested in trying out day one of the ultra-hard raid race challenge mode: you don’t have to grind a lot to hit the power limit. In fact, you may not need to grind at all – you may be past it. Given that hard fate is one of the best fates, I really recommend trying it out.

Glad to see Destiny has less power grinding. Next season the power cap will be raised far less than usual, only by 10 to 1320, but I was still expecting the raid race to find a new way to be rude. Bungie can’t resist the grind, you know?

Bungie has some new challenges. Bungie suggests that while the story of the heist is the same, « you may notice other differences » and they « have made some updates to bring this content up to Destiny 2 standards ». And because people by and large already know how the raid works, the race will actually be to complete it and then come back to complete it while ticking off a list of challenging triumphs.

I look forward to that Raid Race. I don’t expect any competition for serious raiders, but I like the contest mode. I’ve already written about how hard fate is among my favorite fates, such as raid races and Grandmaster Nightfalls. I’ve tried the last few raid races and never finished them in the first 24 hours, but had a great old time.

Season 14, which Bungie still refers to as « Season of [edited] », is slated for May 11th start. The story is still a mystery, but various whispers say it’s about Vex or SIVA. I don’t believe in rumors myself. It will also bring Ada-1 back to power Destiny 2’s new transmogrification system, which has been my most anticipated feature for months – until Bungie found out it’s a huge faff with multiple crafting materials and grinding bonuses and a seasonal cap and … God is I just want to play dress-up, why do you have to make it miserable?

The TWAB release also noted some changes in balance with the new season. Linear fusion rifles are less useless (although I don’t know if that actually makes them useful), 450-rpm automatic rifles are upgraded a bit, and short-range fusion rifles are getting more powerful. They also polish a ton of gun perks and mods, including Hipfire Grip, Subsistence, Unrelenting, Sympathetic Arsenal, Dragonfly (they reduce the annoying lag that often makes explosions not work), and No Distractions. The changes sound good. They also make Osmosis work with stasis so you can have a stasis gun. See the post for more information.
