British and Irish Lions’ Bundee Aki watches Sigma Lions defeat

Duncan Bech

The British and Irish Lions made two late changes to their clash with the Sharks in Pretoria after Maro Itoje and Finn Russell were excluded.

Itoje has a mild gastrointestinal disease and is being replaced in the second row by English teammate Courtney Lawes, whose seat on the bench is taken by Adam Beard.

Russell has himself withdrawn from substitutes for an Achilles injury he was treating, so Bundee Aki comes to provide cover.

The Lions will play the Sharks for the second time in four days after the original opponents of the Bulls withdrew due to a coronavirus outbreak in their camp.

The Warren Gatland men won the first meeting on Wednesday night 54-7 to continue their triumphal march through the tour zen.

While the Lions fallout continues and the provinces continue to hunt for the Rainbow Cup, our free weekly newsletter, The Collision, will keep you updated with the latest news from our rugby correspondent Rúaidhrí O’Connor.
