While the San Fransisco 49ers will soon be number 3 overall, the organization is clearly trying to consider all possible options before making their selections. That includes a crazy offer for an All Pro caliber quarterback.

According to a series of reports launched Thursday morning by KFAN’s Paul Allen, the 49ers offered the Green Bay Packers an extensive package for 2020 MVP Aaron Rodgers . The deal included pick # 3 in 2021, additional draft picks, and several players from their current roster, including Jimmy Garoppolo.

It’s unclear whether to over-invest in the alleged trade offer. ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio added that a source described the report as « dead wrong ». It’s also hard to believe the 49ers would attempt such a deal after hinting at taking a rookie quarterback in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Even so, the report is out there now and the teams must do their best to decipher the information.

The @ 49ers have offered the @Packers their 3rd overall win on this year’s draft, as well as more picks and a range of players from their current roster, including Garoppolofor Aaron Rodgers. The Packers refused. First reported by @PAOnTheMic and verified by others.

The thought of Aaron Rodgers in San Francisco is interesting for a number of reasons. With the 49ers, the 2020 MVP would get ample pass-catching talent and dependable defense, two things it recently lacked at Green Bay.

However, the deal would be even more interesting given Rodgers’ history with the organization. The native Northern Californian had expressed his wish in the 2005 NFL Draft to come first in the 49ers. Instead, San Francisco took Alex Smith with him and Rodgers dropped to number 24 by the Packers. An old clip recently reappeared when the now three-time MVP was asked if he was disappointed that the Niners hadn’t taken him.

Rodgers certainly made San Francisco regret this decision with his incredible career. However, according to recent comments from Brian Gutekunst, General Manager of Packers, it doesn’t look like the 37-year-old will be leaving Green Bay for San Francisco anytime soon.

Instead, the 49ers will likely look to number 3 at tonight NFL draft focus. The action starts at 8 p.m. ET with San Francisco on the watch shortly thereafter.
